From a dark and dusty tomb, Elminster emerges, seeking the guidance of Mystra, and finds only silence. He is drawn into the clutches of the mysterious and sinister Lady of Shadows.
The path he takes will lead to a Realms-shaking confrontation where Elminster has to make the most important choice of his long life.
What made the experience of listening to The Temptation of Elminster the most enjoyable? John Pruden does an excellent job as always. It’s really why I went to this series after Erevis Cale.
People say Greenwood’s work can get messy. I thought the first two books were great; tightly wound stories that were easy to follow. But, it was just a mess. Characters are all over the place. Not know who is with who and why people elminstee doing what they are doing. Just a real elminsteg. There are huge gaps with no Elminster. Which scene was your favorite? Sadly, it was the very very end of the book. Literally, the last few pages. If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
This would not be the book to make a movie. I would still recommend the novel but perhaps do so with a little preparation. Be prepared to look-up names online and take your time. Sometimes, I literally write down names and who they are so I can understand.
What could Ed Greenwood have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
The story was scattered. There was a lot of talk of characters that would not survive for 30 mins that had nothing to really do with the story. The story of Eliminster would have been less than 2 hrs. Making of a Mage was much much better. If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Temptation of Elminster? I would not recommend anyone read this. I read it hoping it would get better and it never did. Even the parts about Eliminster weren’t enough to tie everything together.
Talking about groups and groups that die to a mist that do not have any relation to the story just dragged it out and made it very boring. And even then, it’s rather anti-climactic. There were a few good moments in the book, but overall Ed green one has done much better with some of his other writings. I enjoyed the first two elminsters books but this one was so hard to follow.
It jumped all over the place all the time introducing characters I had to rewind to figure out where they were coming from and why they mattered. I love listening audio books.
The Temptation of Elminster Audiobook | Ed Greenwood |
I elmknster don’t have the time to be reading books. That I’ve been putting off for awhile now. Thanks to audio books I get too catch up on some books that I’ve been putting off for awhile now. The story was epic, the narration by John Pruden was perfect it brought the story to life. His voice was perfect like he was meant to Narrate this story.
After enjoying the previous two books, I expected to like this one also. It was dull and tedious. Would you be willing to try another book from Ed Greenwood?
Why or why not?
The Temptation of Elminster
Based upon other books from them I generally enjoy the story. How does this one compare? Good performance on this one. Did The Temptation of Elminster inspire you elninster do anything? The story was just everywhere on this book for me. I might be a bit ADD and missed some of the bits linking the fragmented stories in this book or it could be the core story was just diluted by the meaningless noise around el,inster.
I’m not saying I wouldn’t recommend this story, however, it isn’t as good as others I have listened to in the recent past. Throughout the story I just lost the main character to other sub-plots that didn’t tie into the overall plot of the book. This book could have been short and sweet without the confusion. The entangled stories are well planned in this book. Ed was very clever. John Pruden did an excellent job with the countless voices and narration.
