Ben reluctantly returns and the two must race against barrry to figure out who’s behind the attempts on Alex’s life and why. As always, good writing and more sophisticated politics than most thrillers.
Sarah is young and naive and blunt with her opinions. Shortly after, Alex gets his answer as to why Richard Hilzoy didn’t show up for their lien with Kleiner Perkins.
Eisler ticks off answers to his questions. Jessica You might like this series, yes, but, at least with this first book, it’s much more overtly political than the Rain books.
But it’s a good thriller, well-researched and covered with Fisler usual boots on the ground experience. But then the inventor of a technology Alex is banking on is murdered Ben Treven 3 books.
There is scene after scene of them rehashing the same emotional baggage, expressing the same internal thoughts, making the same judgements about each other. Only then does Alex reveal that there’s another player who knows of the technology: Ben is a hired assasin for the U.
Something else I didn’t like was how Ben kept dropping people so obviously that it could get back to him. As I said, though, overall the novel was well-written and suspenseful. Bear with me — this is a review of Fault Line but I am reminded of Russell Blake who wrote this brilliant series about an assassin with great plots and equally great character development.
Eisler’s novel, which turns entirely on a super-secret assassinations program, is looking less like fiction and more like the work of someone who has a firm grip on what’s really happening.
Brothers Alex and Ben Treven may have grown up in the same house, but they couldn’t be any more different. Mar Hardcover Apr Paperback. Overall, this was an excellent read. A pretty good thriller.
Refresh and try again. Buy from our partners. The actual solving of the case is full of bang-up action, and ends with a strange unsatisfactory wrap-up. The chance to do that comes when Alex seeks his help after it appears someone is ready to kill anyone with anything to do with Oracle. Feb 17, Bryn rated it it was ok. He returns “home” to help his brother, but he isn’t sure why. Only then does Alex reveal that there’s another player who knows of the technology: Not my favorite Barry Eisler Book.
Alex Trevian is a lawyer in California who has one client, who has invented a special technological project, but which also has a sub program inside it with a secret. Off balance, out of ideas, and running out of time, he knows the one person who can help him is the last person he’d ever ask: Eisler’s sequences of suspense work well, keeping the pages turning.
Alex has been striving hard for the past few years to move up in the law firm he work Richard Hilzoy and his attorney, Alex Trevan have arranged a meeting with Kleiner Perkins. Ben Treven’s maturity level never left high school, when he was king-shit mat wrestler. Will begin to work oldest to newest. Ben is in the military dault in the habit of saving his brother from trouble so even though they are estranged, he goes to help.
His Silicon Valley lawyer, Alex, lime that an old friend who had been helping informally with the patent application for the new program, has suddenly died for no apparent reason.

The story line and plot were okay.
