Each volume is crammed with new spells, monsters, treasures and character types; plus a definitive system of rules to satisfy the most demanding FRP enthusiast. When the fifth-edition designers explain their hesitancy to tweak the published rules, they say the rules belong to the players now.
Hargrave removed that foreword from later editions.
On the book was printed: I do remember seeing them but never got to play with any of the material. None of these were, quite, as good as the first three volumes — he had, after all, crammed a lot of the best stuff into the original three.
I was, thus, somewhat disappointed when I was given a huge Arduin collection re-issue which had much of the personal material edited out of it. Who knows, it may end up with such a good system that people will want to publish your fantasy world. I don’t know if anyone today, reading those little pamphlets for the first time, can understand why they had such an impact on me and others — today the standards are so much higher, and Dave Hargrave’s lessons, such as they were, have been absorbed so thoroughly that they will hardly seem so revolutionary now as they seemed then.

The box set contains the rulebook; a cover sheet with the back grimoirr blurb reprinted; character sheets; 2 sheets of 8 cut-outs depicting various magic items.
Over 50 different kinds of armor. My own homebrew settings always had Arduin DNA running through them and somewhere there was always a gate that would have led there if players stumbled across it… even in games of Traveller. He drew many of the monster and artifact cards for several of the standalone dungeon modules, and also painted the box art with airbrushing by Anthony Delgado for Grimoire Games’ The Arduin Adventure.
