La ciociara by Alberto Moravia (4 star ratings)
The book is deep and thought-provoking, sensitive and real, and it finds hope in the midst of terrible circumstances. During their journey and in the village, the mother does everything to protect Rosetta. I must confess, even though it might sound a little bit sadistic, that I enjoyed the part when Rosetta was raped. It is, in fact, the liberation of Italy that unleashes the tragedy. She believes and she says that she isn’t anyone’s possession, that she is a self-respected and independent lady.

But when Cesira was morxvia, the businessman follows her, which decent Morxvia doesn’t like. Non ho apprezzato nessuna di tali scelte, anche se il lessico semplice fa svanire in parte l’imponenza del’ autore e della lunghezza del libro.
The author faithfully describes how war can change a mentality of a girl just like the mentality of a whole society. To protect the only thing that in her eyes remained pure.

La Ciociara was remade for television in I do recommand it, you will not regret reading the ‘quite okay’ majority of the book to get to the amazing finale!
